"OK Fellas !"

Are you 16 or over and want to play football a bit more competitevely than a kick around in the park, but maybe cannot make the commitment to Sunday league ? Then please come along !

I'm Ben and I hope anyone reading this would like to join in with our brand of semi-competitive football. Whatever your standard or age - youngster developing skills or veteran, 16+ youth/teenager or adult - you are welcome to join us. All you need is a love of the beautiful game of soccer and to play with a good spirit.

Sundays 5pm
Thursdays 6pm
on astroturf

We pick up evenly matched teams of five a side, six a side, seven aside, etc, depending on numbers.

We play in just about all weather conditions - normally only seasonal closing of the Sports Centre over Christmas to New Year or when pitch is unplayable under heavy snow stops us (anyone wanting to be kept informed with text updates, just give me your mobile next time you're down).

How to find
the pitches

We play on a high quality, floodlit astroturf pitch which was renewed in the last 3 years (at great expense !).

You can find the grounds here - close to the Virgin Active gym in Didsbury they are behind Parrs Wood High School in South Manchester. The address is Parrs Wood Sports Centre, Parrs Wood High School, Wilmslow Road, East Didsbury, Manchester M20 5PG. Telephone: 0161 445 2379.

For parking you can use the nearby leisure centre's car park - then walk towards the School, continue until the Sports Centre then turn right, down some steps, cross a roadway and you'll see the astro-turf below you and to your left.

Limited parking is also available at the end of this roadway, by the pitch.

The Parrs Wood Sports Centre hosts many other activities too.

Club Rules

No sliding tackles, no violent behaviour and no abusive conduct.

If either I or my assistant, Tom, finds a player foul of these rules then they'll get a "red card" and be asked to leave the pitch. If the footballer ever repeats such an offence (never has in nearly 10 years) they'll be asked to leave and never return. This has helped maintain a fun and enjoyable, yet competitive atmosphere for all our soccer games.

Finally, when the ball goes out from the astroturf it is the responsibility of the last player who touched the ball to retrieve it straight away, thank you.

6 A SIDE
TOURNAMENT SUN 24 JULY

Thanks to all Players who took part in the superb Parrs Wood Football annual 6 a side tournament.

On a sunny July afternoon, 8 teams entered the tournament consisting of current regular players and 2 guest teams.

After the League stages, 4 teams made it through to the Semi Final - KDS Driving School, Didsbury Seniors, Team Romin, and Your Mum's Athletic....
The wooden spoon stages finished with some exciting matches as John Leigh Massive won on penalties against PSV Trinity for 7th place, and 6 Screamers led by Tom Faulkner took 5th place over Sonni Sensations...

Team Romin comfortably cruised into the final after beating Dare's Didsbury Seniors, whilst Winny and Mark's Your Mum's Athletic sneaked victory from the Guest Team, KDS Driving School after 12 penalties each!

The final saw some excellent football with the young quick Team Romin difficult to contain at times by the more experienced Athletic..
In the end goals by the portly Chris Mills and Andy Lysons saw Athletic gain a deserved victory and take home the impressive trophies...

Well done to all who participated and contributed towards making £100 for charity. This has been sent to the family of Rich Philpott and will be donated to a Cancer Research Charity.

Regards

Ben

About Us

The club started in May 2002 as part of the then Holmes Place (now Virgin Active) Gym nearby. Anyone could join and still can so we're a mixed bag of abilities, backgrounds and ages - from youths / teenagers (16+) to adult (we once had a 68 year old!). Over nearly 10 years our regular players have ranged from ex professionals (for example Stockport County's former Centre Forward), to those who could only dream of playing for their school.

We have footballers from all over South Manchester - from Wythenshawe to Withington (students welcome!), Stockport to Sale. Not only that, we have been lucky enough to welcome players from all over the world including Venezuela, Equador, Albania, Poland, USA, Spain, France, Nigeria, Iran and Liverpool....!
